Russia’s barrage on Kyiv has resulted in massive power loss for the capital, leaving over 2,600 residential buildings without electricity in these chilling winters, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without proper heat. The temperature in the Ukrainian capital has been hovering around zero degrees Celsius.Kyiv’s mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, updated on the situation of the casualties and damage caused due to the massive strikes from Russia. There are already 19 people affected in the capital. Eleven people have been hospitalised,” said Klitschko as reported by AFP, “2,600 residential buildings and hundreds of kindergartens, schools and social buildings have lost heat.”Reuters reported that over ⁠187 nurseries and 138 schools have also been affected and are suffering from power cuts. The attack that majorly targeted the surrounding region of the Ukrainian capital caused about 3,20,000 households to lose power, as reported by the Kyiv regional governor Mykola Kalashnyk. The strike also killed a 47-year-old woman.Ukraine’s air force spotted several drones and missiles hovering over the Kyiv region early on Saturday, following which they announced a countrywide air alert. The alert lasted long after the massive streak of explosions and bright flashes from the overnight strike, reports AFP.The attack from the Kremlin comes a day before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump are set to meet in Florida. Zelenskyy said he has devised a 20-point plan to ensure the security guarantee for Ukraine.The talks come as a broader effort to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, which is about to enter its fourth year, causing multiple casualties for both nations over the years.
