10 Delhi Metro stations for last mile connectivity
As per reports, the 10 metro stations where the new bike taxi, auto-rickshaw and cab last-mile services are expected to start are likely to include the following key locations in Delhi and NCR:
- New Delhi metro station
- Millennium City Centre (Gurugram)
- Lajpat Nagar
- Hauz Khas
- Rajiv Chowk
- Kashmere Gate
- Botanical Garden
- Vaishali
- Sikandarpur
- Nehru Place
DMRC ties up with Sahkar Taxi Cooperative
C said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Ltd (STCL), a multi-state cooperative society that runs the mobility platform ‘Bharat Taxi’. The platform is an initiative of the ministry of cooperation and focuses on cooperative-based transport services with transparent pricing.
Under the agreement, Sahkar Taxi will operate bike taxis, auto-rickshaws and cabs on an aggregator or marketplace model from selected metro stations.
Pilot bike taxi service at two stations
“As part of the pilot phase, dedicated bike taxi services will be deployed at two metro stations — Millennium City Centre and Botanical Garden — by Jan 31. The pilot deployment will help assess commuter response, operational feasibility and service effectiveness before further expansion,” said Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communications, DMRC.
The pilot will decide how quickly the service can be expanded to more stations across Delhi and NCR.
DMRC Sarthi to integrate with Bharat Taxi app
DMRC said digital integration is a key part of the plan. The Bharat Taxi mobile application, available on Android and iOS, will be integrated with the DMRC Sarthi app. This will allow passengers to plan metro travel and last-mile rides on one platform.
“The integration of apps will enable passengers to identify available last-mile options at metro stations, obtain fare estimates, track vehicles and complete their journeys conveniently. This digital approach is expected to improve transparency, reduce waiting time and enhance overall service reliability for metro commuters,” said a Delhi Metro official.
Fares to stay competitive, surge capped
DMRC said fares will be competitive with existing market rates. “While peak-hour pricing may apply in line with demand variations, peak-time fare surges shall be capped to ensure affordability and protect passenger interests. The fare structure is designed to strike a balance between passenger convenience and the economic sustainability of service providers,” said Dayal.
Existing last-mile network to get stronger
At present, last-mile connectivity services are available at 158 metro stations across Delhi and NCR. These include e-auto services at 44 stations, with a total of 1,445 e-autos already deployed by Delhi Metro.
With the addition of bike taxis and app-based cabs, DMRC hopes the daily metro ride will feel a little less tiring once passengers step outside the station gates.
