Paytm‘s parent firm, One 97 Communications, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bharat Taxi, a government-supported ride-hailing platform, to enable digital payments and financial services for drivers.
Bharat Taxi, launched earlier this month under a cooperative model, positions drivers as stakeholders and allows them to retain full ride earnings without charging commissions. The partnership will integrate Paytm’s mobile payments infrastructure into the platform, enabling passengers to pay through UPI within the app, as well as via QR codes, Soundbox and card machines, according to the joint statement.
The collaboration will also focus on onboarding drivers onto UPI, exploring the presence of a Bharat Taxi mini-app on the Paytm platform, and facilitating quicker payouts. In addition, drivers will gain access to financial services such as insurance and other support mechanisms aimed at improving financial inclusion.
A Paytm spokesperson said the initiative aligns with efforts to support seamless and secure payment experiences across India’s mobility ecosystem.
The move reinforces Paytm’s push to expand its presence in India’s ride-hailing and mobility payments segment amid growing digitisation of transport services.
