Recently, Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis officially launched the ‘Bharat Taxi’ service across the state. This comprehensive transit initiative aims to integrate app-based aggregator benefits with traditional taxi networks to establish a highly reliable, safe, and standardized public mobility framework.
Key Points:
- The Unified Fleet: The ‘Bharat Taxi’ project operates as a state-backed public-private partnership (PPP) model, onboarding existing local kaali-peeli taxis, tourist vehicles, and new electric vehicles (EVs) onto a unified digital hailing platform.
- Rural-Urban Connectivity: Unlike conventional ride-hailing applications that operate primarily in tier-1 metropolises, the scheme features a dedicated mandate to expand affordable point-to-point transit services into tier-2, tier-3, and semi-urban talukas.
- Standardized Tariff Matrix: To prevent arbitrary surge pricing and protect commuters from overcharging, the State Transport Department has implemented a transparent, distance-locked tariff framework monitored directly via digital meters.
- Safety Integration: To ensure passenger protection, every vehicle registered under the network must feature mandatory GPS tracking devices, a direct linkage to the state’s central police control room, and functional emergency panic buttons.
- Livelihood & EV Push: The initiative provides low-interest vehicle financing options and operational subsidies for local drivers, with special fiscal incentives offered to operators who transition to fully electric vehicle fleets.
