Chandigarh: A total of 10,695 drivers from Chandigarh have registered with Bharat Taxi, the country’s first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha Tuesday.

Union cooperation minister Amit Shah said the platform, operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL), has enrolled 7,810 cab drivers, 982 auto-rickshaw drivers and 1,903 bike taxi operators in the city.

As of July 28, Bharat Taxi had registered 8.27 lakh drivers nationwide. The Centre said no financial assistance or incentives have been provided for the platform, which operates under the cooperative model.

According to the govt, all drivers and vehicles are verified before onboarding. The platform also offers SOS features, trip-sharing, transparent fares and a grievance redressal mechanism.
