Gujarat Police has expanded its emergency response fleet by adding 500 state-of-the-art “112-Janrakshak” vehicles. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi flagged off these new vehicles on August 25 at the Nava Sachivalay in Gandhinagar.
With this addition, the total number of “Janrakshak” vehicles deployed across Gujarat has reached 1,000, operating round the clock to provide rapid emergency services. According to the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office, the state’s emergency response benefits from a modern 150-seat call centre, a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, and caller location technology. These innovations have reduced the average police response time to 10 minutes and 49 seconds, with an aim to lower it further to under eight minutes.

The 112 panic button has also been integrated into popular ride-hailing applications including Ola, Uber, Rapido and Bharat Taxi to enhance accessibility.
Addressing the event, Minister of State Kamlesh Patel reaffirmed Gujarat’s commitment to peace, prosperity and security. He stated that the Gujarat Police are dedicated to public safety and that the 112 emergency service will accelerate and improve police assistance to citizens.
Since the launch of the Janrakshak Project 11 months ago, over 1.1 million emergency calls have been managed, with immediate assistance provided in more than 674,000 police emergency incidents.
Earlier on August 19, Gujarat Police hosted the national-level ‘KANAD S.H.I.E.L.D. Cybersecurity Hackathon 2026’ at the KCG Campus (i-Hub Gujarat) in Ahmedabad, aiming to enhance cybersecurity and equip law enforcement with modern technology.
Deputy Chief Minister Sanghavi described the hackathon as a key initiative offering new directions in combating cybercrime. He remarked, “Over the next 10 years, cybercrime is likely to increase compared to traditional crime. This is no longer an issue limited to Gujarat but has become a global challenge. To prevent such serious crimes that affect society, collective and sustained efforts are essential.”
He noted that although corporate entities usually receive priority in major projects, this event provided an opportunity for youth, start-ups and innovators nationwide to showcase original ideas and software solutions.
Highlighting the need for technological advancement, Sanghavi explained that while CCTV footage is currently reviewed manually, there is a requirement for an AI-based automated software system. A special ₹51 lakh challenge has been announced to integrate the entire state CCTV network and develop this AI system.
