The government-backed Bharat Taxi app is set to launch on January 1, 2026, offering a strong alternative to ride-hailing giants Ola and Uber. Designed to benefit both passengers and drivers, the app will provide auto-rickshaw, car, and bike taxi services, allowing users to choose according to their needs.
Unlike existing platforms where fares often surge during peak hours or bad weather, Bharat Taxi aims to keep prices stable. As part of a government initiative, the app promises affordable, transparent, and reliable transport services for passengers.
Drivers to Earn Over 80% of the Fare
One of the key highlights of Bharat Taxi is higher earnings for drivers. More than 80% of the total fare will go directly to drivers, significantly improving their income. In contrast, private platforms charge high commissions that reduce take-home pay. Even before its official launch, around 56,000 drivers in Delhi have already registered.
Real-Time Tracking and Enhanced Safety
The app will offer real-time vehicle tracking, similar to other ride-hailing services. Only verified drivers will be onboarded, and 24/7 customer support will be available to ensure safety and reliability. Bharat Taxi will also support multiple Indian languages to cater to a wider user base.
How Bharat Taxi Stands Apart from Ola and Uber
- No surge pricing: Unlike Ola and Uber, where fares can increase two to three times during peak hours or rain, Bharat Taxi will work to maintain stable pricing.
- Better driver earnings: Drivers will receive over 80% of the fare, compared to lower shares on private platforms due to higher commissions.
- Government-backed transparency: As a government-supported initiative, Bharat Taxi will operate with greater regulation, transparency, and public trust.

Drivers as Co-Owners
Bharat Taxi is India’s first national cooperative ride-hailing platform, developed by the Ministry of Cooperation in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division. Drivers will also be co-owners of the platform. An MoU has already been signed with Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited to support this model.
What’s Next?
The service will initially launch in Delhi and is expected to expand to other cities soon. With government backing, Bharat Taxi could emerge as a major player in the cab market—offering passengers more affordable rides and drivers better earnings, while reducing the dominance and arbitrariness of private ride-hailing companies.
