Paytm has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bharat Taxi, the government-backed ride-hailing platform launched last week by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
The partnership will integrate Paytm’s digital payment infrastructure across the cooperative-based taxi service, enabling passengers to pay for rides using UPI, QR codes, Soundbox devices and card machines.
The collaboration extends beyond passenger payments, bringing together efforts around driver UPI onboarding, access to insurance products and the proposed presence of a Bharat Taxi mini-app on the Paytm platform.
The initiative aims to advance financial inclusion for drivers whilst making everyday operations simpler and more secure across Indian cities.
Bharat Taxi operates on a driver-owned cooperative model that allows its Sarathis—as drivers are called—to retain full earnings from each ride without commission deductions.
The platform currently serves over 250,000 drivers and 850,000 passengers in Delhi-NCR, with plans to expand across all Indian states within three years.
A Bharat Taxi spokesperson stated the partnership would strengthen its payments infrastructure while supporting smoother driver onboarding and access to essential services.
Paytm emphasised the collaboration aligns with broader efforts to improve access, transparency and efficiency whilst driving further financial inclusion across India’s evolving mobility ecosystem.
