Gujarat Police will add 500 new 112 ‘Janrakshak’ vehicles to its emergency response fleet, increasing the total to 1,000 vehicles operating across the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi is scheduled to flag off the additional vehicles from the New Secretariat on August 25. The new vehicles will provide round-the-clock emergency services throughout Gujarat.

Under this system, the Janrakshak vehicle nearest to an incident will be dispatched to provide immediate assistance. The decision to deploy more vehicles comes in response to the state’s growing population, urban expansion, and geographical demands aimed at strengthening emergency response capabilities.
Since the launch of the Janrakshak service 11 months ago, over 11.04 lakh integrated service instances have been facilitated, with immediate support provided in more than 6.74 lakh police-related emergency cases.
The service utilises a 150-seat modern call centre, a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, and caller-location technology, which have reduced average response times from 27 minutes to 10 minutes and 49 seconds. Further reductions in response time are planned through deploying additional vehicles and technology.
To address jurisdictional challenges, a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be introduced to ensure the nearest Police Control Room (PCR) vehicle is dispatched to incidents regardless of jurisdiction.
The ‘Dial 112’ initiative integrates multiple emergency services on a single platform, including Police (100), Ambulance (108), Fire (101), Women’s Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098), and Disaster Helpline (1070). The 112 panic button functionality has also been incorporated into Ola, Uber, Rapido, and Bharat Taxi apps.
The new-generation PCR vehicles will be equipped with air conditioning and safety grilles to support 24-hour operations. They will feature Mobile Data Terminals (MDT), GPS tracking, emergency light bars with sirens, Public Address Systems (PAS), fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and searchlights. Police personnel will be outfitted with body-worn cameras, helmets, protective gear, and dash cams.
Each vehicle will have a 24×7 staffed team consisting of one assistant sub-inspector or head constable, two constables, and a driver. With these additions, the Janrakshak fleet will operate continuously across Gujarat to enhance citizen safety and emergency response.
