Government to Launch Cooperative Ride-Hailing Platform Nationwide, ETAuto

The Union government on Wednesday said the cooperative ride-hailing platform Bharat Taxi will be expanded to all major cities and talukas across the country over the next two to three years, as part of efforts to boost driver incomes and generate employment through the cooperative sector.

Responding to questions in the Rajya Sabha on job creation by cooperative societies, Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal said the platform was launched to empower drivers by giving them greater ownership and income opportunities.

“Booking can be done easily through a mobile app. It has full security assurance and provides complete transparency. The platform has also been integrated with the Delhi Police,” Pal said.

The service is currently operational in Delhi-NCR and parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath and Dwarka. According to the minister, the government plans to expand the platform’s presence nationwide.

“In the next two or three years, we will take the service to all big cities and talukas. I would like to inform the House that so far around 4 lakh drivers have been registered with the platform,” he added.

Last month, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched Bharat Taxi, describing it as the country’s first cooperative-run ride-hailing platform.

The initiative has been established by eight leading cooperative organisations, including dairy major Amul, to create a driver-owned mobility platform.
